Bereavement Leave Entitlement



Applies to: all TWL team

Purpose

To ensure that team members who suffer a bereavement have the time needed
to mourn.

Policy/Procedure


If you suffer a bereavement the following arrangements will apply:

You are entitled to up to three day’s paid bereavement leave (scheduled days of work) if a close member of your family dies.

           Close family members include:
            your spouse
            partner
            parent
            child
            brother or sister
            grandparent
            grandchild
            spouse’s/partner’s parent

  • Managers may exercise discretion to allow more than three days in special cases.

You are also entitled to one day’s paid bereavement leave where:

  • Your manager accepts that you have suffered a bereavement because of the death of another person who was not a close family member as detailed above; or 
  • You have responsibility for arrangements relating to the death; or
  • You have cultural responsibilities in relation to the death.

Payment is made at your relevant daily rate of pay as defined by the Holidays Act 2003.
